ATS Expects PlatePass® Use to Increase During Thanksgiving Holiday

Scottsdale, AZ –   From vehicle renters to fleet customers, PlatePass®, American Traffic Solutions’ (ATS) Toll Management Solution, expects to manage more than 150,000 toll payments, more than double what it paid only three years ago, over the five-day Thanksgiving holiday travel period.

PlatePass® is an electronic toll payment system that enables renters to use high-speed electronic toll collection lanes and bypass backups at cash lanes. The PlatePass® service also means that rental car customers will avoid costly toll violation fines otherwise incurred if high-speed toll lanes are used without special equipment or prior enrollment.

PlatePass® continues to experience extraordinary overall growth and ATS anticipates the ongoing trend of increased use will continue this year. Beginning with 68,500 toll payments over Thanksgiving 2009, the number rose 21percent to top 83,000 in 2010 and jumped 38 percent to more than 115,000 payments last year.  At its current rate, PlatePass® expects to top 150,000 toll payments this Thanksgiving travel period. These large holiday figures, however, are small in comparison to the company’s overall progress, which is driven by a growing list of fleet subscribers and rental car companies.

ATS Executive Vice President Adam Draizin stated, "As more fleet managers see how efficient it is and more users see how convenient it is, we expect the number vehicles registered and tolls paid to continue to increase.”

PlatePass®, which complies with in-vehicle transponder and license plate (video) toll recognition systems throughout the United States, is in use in 17 states and Puerto Rico, amounting to nearly 95 percent of all toll roads in operation.

Toll roads provide a number of advantages to road users throughout the year that are particularly useful during holiday time. The primary benefits, according to the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association, are better roads, less congestion and more predictable trip times. Most importantly, toll roads are safer for travelers, registering a fatality rate that is three times lower than all U.S. roads.
