AMETEK Solidstate Controls Launches Its First DPP System for All Nuclear 1E Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Applications
Digital Process Power product surpasses previous UPS systems with higher levels of diagnostics and monitoring
Columbus, Ohio – AMETEK Solidstate Controls, Inc. (SCI), a leader in highly customized uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), today introduced its first Nuclear Digital Process Power (NDPP) product designed to meet the highly specialized needs of the nuclear power industry.
Unlike previous SCI ferroresonant UPS systems, the new AMETEK NDPP product results from a market demand for a more compact unit with greater system monitoring and a higher level of diagnostic capabilities.
According to John Ely, SCI marketing manager, “The new NDPP microprocessor design incorporates full software/hardware verification and validation as required by NRC standards.”
He adds, “The proven reliability and durability of SCI’s NDPP 1E product line, along with the new NDPP’s advanced data logging capabilities, allow facility operators to review power events in real time – a critical factor for maintaining the safe operation of a nuclear facility.”
Enhanced safety features include the prevention of external user communications, employment of electromagnetic interference (EMI) suppression, and high temperature rise transformers, notes Ely.
“We listened to our customers and designed our new system to be more compact for installation in smaller spaces.”
The new SCI NDPP 1E system is designed and tested in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations Title 10 Part 50 and Regulatory Guide 1.152 Rev 3.
“We have been a proven and experienced power conversion supplier and a consultant to the nuclear power industry for more than 40 years,” comments Ely. “Nearly 75 percent of the nuclear generating stations in the United States rely on our products and our support and consulting services to provide power protection for their critical plant control systems.”
To demonstrate its leadership in the nuclear industry, AMETEK SCI established its own Nuclear Engineering Team Hall of Fame and sponsors a bi-annual Nuclear Owner’s Group Conference at which attendees from throughout the United States discuss a myriad of topics from nuclear power plant design and safety to the monitoring of batteries and issues pertaining to power protection at nuclear power generation plants.
