ROSEMEAD, CA--Hermetic Seal Corporation was founded in 1945 to manufacture the first glass-to-metal-sealed headers for the vacuum tubes used on the Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer (ENIAC), a ground-breaking electronic machine funded by the US Army and built between 1943 and 1946 as the world’s first general purpose computer.
Although founded in New Jersey, where it operated during its first decade, Hermetic Seal has been located in the Greater Los Angeles area and, in particular, the City of Rosemead for the past 60 years. For much of its existence, Hermetic Seal was an independent company. Today, it is a unit of AMETEK, Inc., a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical products.
Over the course of its 70-year history, Hermetic Seal has remained the premier designer and manufacturer of high reliability hermetically sealed, electrical interconnection devices. Its products are used in sensing and actuating systems by the aerospace and defense, oil and gas, and medical device industries around the world.
Hermetic Seal products include qualified military connectors, high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) bulkhead connectors, very high temperature connectors, and ruggedized connectors that combine glass seals with advanced PEEK (polyetheretherketone) molding technology.
Its connectors are used in subsea applications for deep water oil and gas exploration reaching previously unreachable depths of the world’s oceans as well as aboard NASA rovers and space probes sent to explore to Mars, Jupiter, and beyond.
Today, 70 years since its founding, Hermetic Seal is positioned for the future. It recently opened an Engineering Center of Excellence, where it expects to develop products specifically for the latest generation of commercial aircraft, the most-demanding oil and gas applications, and the most-advanced medical technology.
“We have traveled a long path from our early days supplying vacuum tubes and relay bases for the first electronic computers,” comments George McCormack, Director of Sales. “Today, we incorporate materials and processes that could not be imagined 70 years ago. We have developed high-pressure, high-temperature bulkhead connectors rated for pressures above 40,000 PSI and advanced jet engine connectors that operate at temperatures above 824oF (440oC).”
“What has not changed over the years is the soul of the company,” he adds. “We continue to depend upon the skills and dedication of our employees to fulfill our mission of offering customized solutions for our customers’ most-difficult connector applications, while providing them with the best quality and service available.”
