MIDDLEFIELD, CT – Zygo Corporation is pleased to introduce the Nomad™ Portable Optical Profiler. The Nomad system employs advanced optical technology and advanced 3D non-contact metrology in a lightweight, compact and portable package, enabling metrology on samples that were previously impossible or impractical to measure.
Precision, Performance and Portability
Nomad leverages ZYGO’s Coherence Scanning Interferometry (CSI) and SureScan™ technologies for vibration robustness to provide the performance of a workstation in a compact design built with portability in mind.
“The Nomad system’s small, lightweight packaging and sub-nanometer vertical precision provide an economical solution to high-value surface inspection when compared with the costs and challenges of engineering a large workstation platform,” remarked Eric Felkel, Product Manager for Optical Profilers at ZYGO. “By bringing the metrology to the part instead of the part to the metrology, the risks associated with transporting a high value sample can be greatly reduced.”
In applications as varied as precision optics polishing and the finishing of sealing surfaces on an automotive engine, surface roughness and waviness are key functional parameters. By using ZYGO’s extensive range of parfocal objectives from 1.4x to 100x magnification, the Nomad profiler enables critical metrology in an easy to use and quantitative way.
Versatility for a Wide Range of Applications
Nomad runs ZYGO’s internally developed Mx™ software, for enhanced data visualization and quantification of step heights, texture, and volumetric features. Its highly optimized metrology software also provides added capabilities for regions analysis and advanced applications. The instrument includes a novel desktop stand for the system with an integrated metric breadboard for customers to adapt small scale fixturing.
The instrument’s breadboard and stand enable the Nomad to be utilized not only as an on-part metrology solution but also as a desktop profiler for smaller samples, providing additional instrument flexibility. Whether measuring directly on large parts or utilizing the stand for smaller samples, the instrument’s configurable application recipes and custom scripting capability allow manufacturers to easily tailor the measurement process and combine multiple metrology steps on a single station.
ZYGO will exhibit the Nomad Portable Optical Profiler System in booth #815 at the SPIE Optifab show in Rochester, NY, October 13 to 15, 2015.
