AMSPAC SIGNS BILL TO PROMOTE FREEDOM, DEMOCRACY, AND HUMAN RIGHTS FOR CUBAN AND SYRIAN AMERICANS

Miami, FL, May 15, 2012--On May 8, 2012 in Miami, Florida, history was made for Syrian-Americans and Cuban-Americans and for the future of Freedom, Democracy and Human Rights in Syria and Cuba.

The Assembly of the Cuban Resistance, Asamblea de la Resistencia Cubana (ARC), along with AMSPAC, the American-Syria Public Affairs Committee and four other Syrian American Organizations signed a declaration of Alliance and joint agreement. The four other Syrian American organizations are SETF, UFS, SAC, and SEO.

After an introduction about the Cuban Resistance against Castro and the Syrian Revolution against Assad, the Declaration stated:

"'Therefore with said moral authority, the Cuban Americans and the Syrian Americans jointly agree:

To Coordinate all our political, diplomatic, logistic and humanitarian efforts in pursuit of the liberation of Cuba and Syria, hence constituting a United Front for the Freedom and Democracy, therefore, the Cuban Resistance and the Syrian Revolution jointly declare:
The people want the overthrow of the dictatorial regimes of Assad and Castro,' according to the Declaration singed on May 8, 2012 by represent attained of above American Organizations at the Biltmore Hotel in Miami, Florida."

Seven organizations signed for The Assembly of the Cuban Resistance, Asamblea de la Resistencia Cubana (ARC), Which included:

Movimiento Feminista  por los Derechos Civiles Rosa Parks, Coalición de Mujeres Cubano Americanas (Coalition of Cuban American Women),  Proyecto Pro Cambio, Jóvenes Cubanos en Acción (Cuban Youth in Action), Presidio Político Histórico “Casa del Preso”, Directorio Democrático Cubano (Cuban Democratic Directorate), and MAR por Cuba (Mothers Against Repression).

"We are fighting for the same ideal, which is none other than the respect of the fundamental rights of the peoples of Syria and Cuba," said Sylvia Iriondo, President of Mothers and Women Against Repression in Cuba, an ARC-affiliated group.

"On May 1, 2012, Florida Gov. Rick Scott signed a bill banning governments from hiring companies tied to Cuba and Syria [...] In throwing his support behind Florida House Bill 959, Scott sided with the nearly-unanimous Legislature," The Miami Herald reported.

"The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Rene Garcia of Hialeah and Rep. Michael Bileca of Miami," according to The Miami Herald.

AMSPAC supported this bill along with two other Syrian-American organizations, SETF and UFS and the major Cuban-American organizations in Miami.

AMSPAC, The American-Syria Public Affairs Committee, a non-profit American organization is dedicated to promote Freedom, Democracy and Human Rights in Syria. The organization will work to strengthen the relationship between the USA and Free Syria to ensure the mutual interests of both countries and promote peace in the Middle East.

AMSPAC senior officials stated their organization will work with Democrats, Republicans, and Independents to enact policies that will further the above stated mission and principles.

AMSPAC membership is open to all Americans who believe in its mission and will work and coordinate with all organizations who share its common goals.
