As of September 2018, music tech startup Amuse is an official associate of Music Managers Forum (MMF). With its next-generation take on music distribution and label deals, Amuse aims to reinvent how artists are discovered and signed. Amuse gives artists and managements worldwide 100% free music distribution to all major streaming platforms and digital music stores. Using the generated data to find and license rising talent, Amuse wants to empower the platinum-selling artists of tomorrow.

2018 has been all about expansion for Amuse, growing its organisation from 10 to 50 employees spread out over Stockholm, Los Angeles, Miami and Bogotá. Amuse, - just named one of Europe’s 100 hottest startups by WIRED UK - now teams up with MMF, the world’s largest professional community of music managers. Since it’s inception in 1992 the MMF has worked to educate, inform and represent UK managers, while offering a network through which innovative companies like Amuse can create relationships with the music community and listen to the needs of today’s artists.

Artists and managements around the world use Amuse to distribute their music for free to all major streaming platforms and digital music stores, such as Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music. There are no upfront fees and 100% of the royalties and music rights stay with the artist. The Amuse app also lets the user track its progress, streaming activity and royalties, allowing withdrawals to be made through a simple tap on the user’s smartphone screen.

Tracking a variety of metrics, Amuse label team use streaming data from the songs uploaded to identify potential hit tracks and artists that can be helped to grow even faster. When the label team finds something they believe in they offer the artist a (non-obligatory) license deal. That means the artist keeps their own rights while partnering up with Amuse for financing, promotion, PR and playlist pitching. Revenue is split 50/50.

– Many modern artists are uncomfortable with giving away their creative rights to major record labels. In this digital day and age it’s easier than ever to go independent, but it’s a lot of hard work. By offering artist-friendly deals and smart tools we want to fill that gap in the market and create partnerships that are as meaningful to us as the artists and managements we work with, says Andreas Ahlenius, Director of Label at Amuse.
