From Runaway to Hip Hop Prodigy - Amuse Presents Kamelen’s Artist Story

Norwegian rapper Marcus Kabelo Møll Mosele - aka Kamelen - became famous over night when he released his debut single “Si ingenting” while being on the run from jail in 2015. In the four years since, his hit releases and non-stop touring have established him as an underground front-runner within the Scandinavian hip hop scene - as well as an important voice for an under-represented group in the Norwegian society.

In anticipation of his upcoming album “Kingpin”, Kamelen and his manager Leo Ajkic gives an exclusive peek into everyday life in the latest episode of Amuse Artist Stories - produced by the reimagined record label and music distribution service that he just landed a million NOK deal with.

Born and raised in Bergen on the Norwegian Atlantic coast, Kamelen didn’t really nurture any artist dreams growing up. The town, home to many of Norway’s most acclaimed musicians, eventually succeeded in luring him into its scene though, or as he himself puts it: “I had a few glasses of wine in a studio and suddenly I was an artist”.

Spending a few of his younger years in trouble with the judicial system, Kamelen has made sure to make amends while rising to fame with million-streamed tracks like “Ingenting”“Beng Beng Beng” and “Lil Homie”. His album “Ambivalent” and the EP “Lyca” recently earned him a Norwegian Grammy nomination, and his dedicated fan base is now in full anticipation of his upcoming album “Kingpin”, due for release later this year.

Insisting on staying in creative control of his music and career, Kamelen has repeatedly chosen to turn down major record deals. Recently the value of his catalogue earned him a million NOK (around 100 000 €) partnership with reimagined record label and distribution company Amuse and their new Fast Forward feature - a cutting-edge data driven royalty advance service that allows artists to access future royalties while staying independent.

In expectation of his upcoming album, Amuse now presents Kamelen’s Artist Story - the third episode of their documentary series portraying contemporary artist phenomenons. Previous episodes include platinum selling Swedish rapper Adel and Musikgäris - a separatistic music collective in the music industry.
