In August she will not only cycle for an agency called england, but will also represent England - the country, when she competes against world-class athletes in the UCI Masters World Cross Country Mountain Biking Championships at Pra Loup in France. Debbie holds the National Champion title for Veterans Cross Country Mountain Biking, and is currently leading the Grand Veteran category in the National British Mountain Biking Series. She is sponsored by cycling store, ACTiV in Folkestone, which is owned by her husband Steve Burton, and bicycle manufacturer, Trek. The couple met 20 years ago when she bought her first bike in his shop. With a burning ambition to bring home the World Champion title, Debbie will compete with some of the world’s best riders in her age group when she rides the challenging terrain in the French Alps with altitudes as high as 3,300 metres and temperatures associated with the Mediterranean climate. Debbie, who cycles under her married name Burton, trains most days of the week by cycling and swimming, and yet manages to juggle work with training and the family. “There’s a similarity with racing on the bike and working successfully for our clients,” said Debbie. “It involves the same focus, the same determination and the same desire to succeed. This approach is adopted by all the team at an agency called england.” Roger Wilbraham, Event Co-ordinator for MTB and BMX for British Cycling, said, “We wish Debbie every success when she competes in the Championships this August. She is an inspiration to others, showing how ordinary men and women from around the UK can benefit from and enjoy cycling, not just at a competitive level, but also for pleasure. We hope that Debbie’s enthusiasm for the sport will encourage others to take up cycling in line with our four year plan to increase mass population in cycling.” The multi-award-winning marketing agency, an agency called england, located in Orchard Street, Canterbury, also has offices in Yorkshire in the landmark Whitehall Waterfront building on the banks of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, close to the centre of Leeds.
