Redruth-based Highway Plant Hire has added its fifth Andover Trailers plant body to its fleet, featuring a double crank beavertail and mounted to a 26 tonne MAN TGS 26.360 rigid.  This new vehicle joins the fleet more than a decade after Highway Plant first specified equipment from Andover Trailers.

The new bespoke-built LPPB26 body features hydraulic ramps surfaced in a mixture of timber and expamet, hardwood flooring and a remote control winch with snatch block and an emergency stop function, positioned in the headboard.

Highway Plant has been supplying forklift trucks, telescopic handlers, rollers and dumper trucks to the construction and highways industries throughout Cornwall for more than 40 years and will be using the new vehicle to transport its own equipment to customers around the county.

Ian Powell, Director at Highway Plant, says: “We specify Andover Trailers bodywork on our trucks as it is built to last; our teams perform multiple collections and deliveries with these vehicles every day, and they don’t miss a beat.  Just as our customers can rely on us to provide the best service, so too do we rely on Andover Trailers to keep our transport operation on the road.”

As with the majority of Andover Trailers’ rigid bodies, the body has a deck height up to five inches lower than a regular plant body, enabling Highway Plant to benefit from low ramp and beavertail approach angles, which aids the loading and unloading process.

The bodywork also incorporates a number of safety features including steady legs, which ensure a stable platform for loading and unloading on uneven terrain, as well as six pairs of lashing points in the floor to hold equipment down securely.  Andover Trailers has also installed a drawbar coupling, enabling the vehicle to tow a 3.5 tonne trailer, for added flexibility.

Powell adds: “The team at Andover Trailers make the whole body building process easy to manage, and we’re confident this latest asset will provide a long and reliable life on the fleet.”

The new body was displayed at this year’s Royal Cornwall Show.  Highway Plant is a member of the Construction Plant Hire Association as well as the Fork Lift Truck Association, and prides itself on offering customers a reliable and first class service.
