Specialist plant hire and transport business, Reynolds & Read, has added its first plant body built by Andover Trailers to its fleet, mounted to a new DAF CF85 6x2 rigid and accommodating a powerful Fassi F295A crane.

The Isle of Wight-based company chose Andover Trailers, which designs bespoke solutions for heavy haulage, construction and abnormal load transportation, to build its new body after hearing positive reports about the company.

Its chosen LPPB26 body features innovative fuel-saving fold-forward ramps – a design pioneered by Andover Trailers.  Measuring 2.5m x 1m wide, they fold flat against the deck, minimising aerodynamic drag whilst the truck is moving.

Kieron Read, Managing Director at Reynolds & Read, says: “We’d heard a lot of positive reports about Andover Trailers bodywork, and so when we needed a new plant body for our expanding fleet we decided to go with them. They haven’t disappointed – they’ve equipped our latest 26 tonner with a robust body built precisely for the heavy-duty work we do day in, day out.

“This is bespoke engineering, but working with the Andover team takes away all the hassles.  We told them what we need this vehicle to do, and they presented the solution, designed to our exact specification.”

The bodywork incorporates a number of safety features including hydraulic steady legs, which ensures a stable platform for loading and unloading, as well as six pairs of lashing points in the floor to hold equipment down securely.

Safety is bolstered thanks to a row of lights mounted to the top of the headboard, along with lights under the bed to illuminate the area around the crane, when operating in hours of darkness. The customer also specified a pair of additional reversing lights, together with amber strobes fitted to the DAF’s grill and the rear of the body for maximum visibility by other road users.

Other features include a remote-control hydraulic Superwinch, a chain tray built into the centre of the beavertail with a hinged trap door, two further chain trays with lids positioned against the headboard, hardwood flooring, two heavy-duty plastic toolboxes and twistlocks to enable the body to carry 20ft ISO containers.

As with the majority of Andover Trailers’ rigid bodies, the body has a deck height up to five inches lower than a regular plant body, enabling Reynolds & Read to benefit from low ramp and beavertail approach angles.

“We’ve been very impressed with Andover Trailers and we’re delighted we decided to task them with building our new plant body,” adds Read.

Reynolds & Read’s fleet spends the majority of its time working on the Isle of Wight, with around 25 per cent of the company’s business on the mainland.  The company offers a range of services from skip hire to operating telescopic forklifts for site work, such as unloading materials, and lifting beams and roof trusses into place.
