ÅF-Group awarded new contract by Akzo Nobel The ÅF-Group has fought off tough competition to win the contract for carrying out preliminary planning work for new production facilities for Akzo Nobel's operations in Örnsköldsvik, northern Sweden. The project includes work on one plant for the production of a new product and one for the development of new products. The ÅF-Group will be assigning around 20 consultants to the project with expertise from the fields of process technology, electrical and IT installations, mechanical engineering, ventilation engineering and building technology. The project has to be completed quickly. This, together with the fact that some of the technology is as yet untested, places a great deal of responsibility on the suppliers selected. Akzo Nobel cites the ÅF-Group's ability to deliver a complete, all-round service as one of the motivations for awarding the contract to ÅF. Akzo Nobel has 68,000 employees and is active in 75 countries supplying clients with pharmaceuticals, paint and industrial chemicals. The Akzo Nobel group's turnover for 1999 (excluding Acordis) is expected to total around 110 billion Swedish kronor. Akzo Nobel disposed of Acordis, which formerly represented the group's fibre operations, to CVC Capital Partners at the end of 1999.
