ÅF Group to inspect and test new soda recovery unit for Värö Bruk Pulp Mill Värö Bruk Pulp Mill is in the process of building a new soda recovery unit, which will play a key role in the pulp factory's production system. The ÅF Group, together with its Finnish partner, Polartest OY, has been entrusted with the responsibility of carrying out all the inspection and testing necessary in conjunction with the design, manufacture and installation of the unit. This work will be done in accordance with the EU's new "Pressure Vessel Directive". As a "Notified Body" in accordance with this directive, the ÅF Group is authorised to carry out inspection and testing. The contract has been awarded by the supplier and main contractor for the soda recovery plant, Andritz-Ahlstrom of Finland. The order, worth approximately SEK 2 million, was secured in competition with inspection bodies both with Sweden and abroad. Värö Bruk is part of Södra Cell AB, Europe's biggest manufacturer of bleached sulphate pulp. The mill is situated on the Väro Peninsula, some 40 miles (60 kilometres) south of Göteborg on the Swedish west coast. The annual production capacity at Värö Bruk is 350,000 tonnes of bleached softwood pulp for paper mills. The pulp is totally chlorine-free and is used for the very finest writing and printing paper.
