Leicester-based youth arts charity, Soft Touch Arts, is aiming for a record number of supporters in 2016 as it gears up to celebrate its 30thanniversary.

The organisation, which is located on New Walk, is launching its 30 for 30 campaign to encourage local businesses and individuals to support and fundraise for Soft Touch Arts during 2016 by choosing it as their Charity of the Year, sponsoring one of its young people or completing a sponsored activity.

Established in 1986, the organisation provides innovative creative art, media and music projects to help build skills and opportunities for vulnerable and disadvantaged young people.

There are numerous ways businesses and individuals can support Soft Touch Arts in 2016:

  • Charity of the Year – Soft Touch Arts is encouraging local businesses to donate and fundraise throughout the year
  • Sponsor a young person – this funds a young person’s participation in one of the charity’s projects
  • Sponsor an exhibition or event – the charity hosts events throughout the year
  • Buy a Brick - allows businesses to have their logo permanently placed on the wall of the New Walk arts centre
  • Fundraise – from coffee mornings to marathons, there are numerous ways individuals can raise money
  • Hire space – the New Walk arts centre has space available to hire for meetings, events and team building days in a convenient and central location
  • Sponsor a pop-up dining event – help young people gain experience in catering, cooking and healthy eating

Christina Wigmore, Business and Strategic Director of Soft Touch Arts, comments: “As part of the charity’s 30thanniversary we have set ourselves the challenge of gaining 30 supporters during 2016. We are keen to use our 30thbirthday to make it the biggest and best year yet for Soft Touch Arts, and in order to develop and grow our services we hope to gain the backing of the local community. We have plenty of ideas for the year ahead and some great ways that people can choose to support us.”

Marcus Joseph, one of the early users of Soft Touch Arts’ services, comments: “Soft Touch was the very first studio I experienced as a youth, it took me off the street and allowed me to be creative and I will never forget what they did for me.”

Jenny Cross, Editor of Niche Magazine, comments: “We are proud supporters of Soft Touch Arts and are pleased to be getting behind the charity again in 2016. The work they do with young people is really inspiring and they also hold great networking and pop-up events for the local business community.”

Soft Touch Arts has won numerous accolades, including the Non-Profit Organisation Award at the Leicester Mercury Business Awards 2014 and the Shaping Tomorrow’s Leaders Award at the Niche Business Awards 2015, while Emily Johnston also won Apprentice of the Year at the Leicester Mercury Women in Business Awards 2015.
