NOTTINGHAM FIRM AIMS FOR £3 MILLION TURNOVER AS IT CELEBRATES FIFTH BIRTHDAY
A Nottingham-based online retailer is celebrating its fifth anniversary after establishing itself as the go-to brand for visual display products.
Boards Direct, which is based on Lenton Lane and specialises in supplying whiteboards and noticeboards to businesses and consumers, is forecast to top the £3million turnover mark in 2015, after going from a business start-up to employing a workforce of nine in just five years.
Set up in 2009 by directors Paul Pinder and David Shaw, the company’s success is due in part to its exclusive Casca range of high-end magnetic glass noticeboards, which are designed and manufactured in Nottingham.
The firm also counts big names such as Fortnum and Mason, Lloyds and Barclays Bank among its clientele.
Paul Pinder, Director at Boards Direct, comments: “We are proud to have reached this milestone and to have established Boards Direct as a successful online retailer and a high quality, affordable supplier of visual display products.
“We provide high quality glass, magnetic and white boards for a wide range of uses and supply to a wide range of businesses and education establishments nationally, but also have a number of Nottingham-based clients including Nottingham Trent University and ARUP.
“Our success is all down to our strong business model; as we buy our products direct from the manufacturer we are able to provide our customers with quality products at very competitive prices, something which many of our competitors are unable to do.
“We have quickly become the go-to brand for exclusive office developments and fit-outs, particularly in the Clerkenwell district in London, where the trendy creative agencies have all adopted the Casca brand of boards for their office spaces, which has largely happened through word of mouth.
“Last year we made a measured expansion into the New York market and have made progress into the area, which is something we are looking to expand on in 2015.
“We are also delighted that one of our key products is being manufactured right here in Nottingham.”
The Casca brand specialises in high quality magnetic glass noticeboards, providing a clean finish product in a choice of 25 colours that has been designed to conceal all fixtures.
Only high specification glass is used in the manufacture of the products at the firm’s Nottingham premises and Casca products are the only ones in the sector guaranteed never to fade.
The glass is provided by AGC, Europe’s largest manufacturer of decorative glass, which also ordered Casca products for its new headquarters in Brussels.
Boards Direct has also become a success story for the Government-backed Growth Accelerator fund, which provides funding, mentoring and consultancy to SMEs with the potential to improve and grow.
Paul adds: “The Growth Accelerator fund has been of major benefit to the company and has allowed us to grow quickly, yet sustainably, and given us access to advice and support from experts in finance, business development and more, which is exactly what a new start-up needs to succeed and thrive as a business.”
Boards Direct has been shortlisted for the Sales and Marketing Award at the upcoming Nottingham Post Business Awards 2015.
