The owner of a Nottingham firm that specialises in visual display products will keep on running in 2016 as he takes on 62 kilometres in the name of charity.

Paul Pinder of Boards Direct, along with wife Carolyn, will lace up their running shoes to raise funds for the city’s Hayward House palliative care centre, as they take on the Rushcliffe 10k (6th March), the Asda Foundation Nottingham 10k (15th May) and the Ikano Robin Hood Marathon and Half Marathon (25th September).

Hayward House is a specialist care centre on the grounds of City Hospital, providing palliative care for cancer patients. It is supported by Nottingham Hospitals Charity.

Paul comments: “We have always been keen runners and are always looking to take on a new challenge, so taking on these three well-known Nottingham events is the perfect opportunity to push our running skills while also raising money for a good cause. Hayward House does an incredible job of delivering palliative care and enriching the quality of life of its patients, so we are keen to raise a sum that will make a real difference. We have already received a lot of support from our clients and are aiming to raise as much money as possible.”

Nick Lawford, Fundraising Manager at Nottingham Hospitals Charity, comments: “We are so grateful to Paul and Carolyn for taking on such an energetic challenge to raise vital funds for Hayward House this year. The money they raise will directly support patients at Hayward House, providing the added extras that make a huge difference to patient care. This includes complementary therapy, arts and craft activities, additional nursing staff, counselling support and the development of facilities for patients and their families.”

Paul is not the only Boards Direct team member to take on a physical challenge for charity, as Financial Manager Carol Walker, known as Ceejay (51), and daughter Keira Walker (24) will be swimming the equivalent of the English Channel to raise money for Diabetes UK.

Ceejay, of Beeston, says: “My three-year-old granddaughter Rosey was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. She is dealing with the condition very well, but it has inspired Keira and I to raise money for Diabetes UK, which funds research into new treatments. We will both be swimming 22 miles, which is a daunting challenge, but one that we are looking forward to. As a lifelong condition, Rosey will have to learn to self-manage her diabetes, but we hope that new treatments will be developed in the future that will improve life for those with the condition.”

Boards Direct, which is based on Lenton Lane, specialises in supplying whiteboards and noticeboards to schools, universities and businesses, and has its own brand of award-winning Casca glass noticeboards which are manufactured in Nottingham.

The company counts Nottingham Trent University, Fortnum and Mason, Lloyds and Barclays Bank among its clientele.
