Elaine Fairfax, founder and MD of pet insurance provider, Animal Friends Insurance, has sponsored the purchase of a £16,500 K-Laser treatment machine for the Dorset based Friars Moor Veterinary Clinic.

Well established as a therapy for humans, laser treatment is now being used for a wide range of conditions in pets, from fractures and sprains to arthritis and hip dysplasia. It can also be used on post-surgery wounds and to promote faster healing following neutering and spaying. The treatment works by running a laser over the affected area to stimulate cells, increase circulation and reduce swelling, inflammation, stiffness and pain.

Pets remain relaxed during treatment with the K-Laser machine, with increased warmth to the treated areas usually the only sensation. Owners can also be present during the procedure.

Founder of Animal Friends, Elaine Fairfax, said: “I could see that this machine represented a vital advancement in the treatment of pets for all manner of conditions. My own cat, which is 17 years old, was treated with the K-Laser machine and we immediately saw a big improvement to his arthritis. Two of my friends also saw notable improvements in their pets that had undergone the same treatment.”

Elaine continues “This is something that I wanted our policyholders in our region to benefit from and our association with Friars Moor will further this. At Animal Friends, we strive to find ways to make treatment and claims processes easier for our customers and for the practices that we regularly deal with.”

Tara Hughes, Senior Pet Claims Assessor at Animal Friends and holder of an honours degree in veterinary nursing and practice administration, said: “As someone with a vested interest in the veterinary world, I know how effective K-Lasers are. Ideally, all veterinary surgeries would have this equipment, however, unfortunately, they don’t. The K-Laser donated by Animal Friends will make a highly positive difference to the Friars Moor Veterinary Clinic.”

Anthony Wilkinson, Director of the Friars Moor Veterinary Clinic, said: “Each week, more animals are booked in for K-Laser treatment. The nursing staff is excited about K-Laser and we’re sure it will change the way we interact with our clients. It is an impressive piece of equipment backed up by impressive clinical data. We are very grateful to Animal Friends Insurance for purchasing the K-Laser for the Friars Moor Veterinary Clinic.”

Editors notes - K-Laser

K-Laser offers the most advanced Class IV Therapy Laser Platform in the world. All K-Laser models utilise the most advanced technology in a compact and portable, yet very powerful platform. All units have a lifetime laser diode warranty, scientifically designed presets, wavelength selectability, and USB ports for continual software updatability.

Infrared laser photons penetrate deeply into the body and are absorbed at the cellular level. ATP production is enhanced and cell membrane permeability is improved, which increases metabolic activity in the cell. Localised release of nitric oxide causes vasodilation of circulatory vessels, leading to a cascade of beneficial effects for cellular and tissue health.

During each painless treatment, laser energy is absorbed in water, increasing local circulation and thereby drawing oxygen and nutrients to the damaged area. This creates an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness and pain. As the injured area returns to normal, function is restored and pain is relieved.
