Auditions may have closed for the big UK TV talent contests, but there is still a chance for you to get your very own fifteen minutes of fame… by making your dog a star – but you need to be quick!

The Make Your Dog a Star competition , run by veterinary charity the Animal Health Trust (AHT) in association with furniture chain DFS, closes soon. It offers the pooch of one lucky supporter the opportunity to star in an upcoming DFS television commercial. The advert will be shown during peak viewing times and is the perfect opportunity for the winner to show off their four-legged friend to the Great British public! The competition will close on July 31st – so there’s not long to go! Andrew Simmonds, Head of Development at the AHT, said: “Every dog owner thinks their dog is a star. We’ve had some incredible and entertaining reasons from people telling us why their dog should win.” The competition, launched in March this year at Crufts is a fundraising appeal for two vital AHT projects. The AHT’s Canine Genetics Team, who examine the DNA that is responsible for inherited diseases in dogs, will benefit. Inherited conditions particularly affect purebred dogs. The AHT’s research will help to develop DNA tests enabling breeders to produce healthier puppies. It’s also an appeal for the Oncology Research Group, who specialise in canine cancer. Cancer is a major cause of death in dogs – on average one in four will be affected by cancer during its life. By entering the competition you will help the AHT look into better treatments of various forms of cancer in dogs. Andrew added: “It’s fantastic that everyone who enters is raising money for a very worthy cause and at the end someone’s favourite pooch will become a TV star!” Entering is really easy and only costs £5 – simply visit www.makeyourdogastar.com and follow the instructions. Your entry will help the AHT create a planet of healthier, happier dogs.
