Visit the home of Giuseppe Garibaldi Today, Thursday 17th March, marks the 150th anniversary of Italy’s Unification. Celebrations mark the day in which the different states of the Italian peninsula were liberated from foreign rule on March 17th 1861, and Victor Emmanuel II was crowned the first King of Italy. A key contributor to the Italian unification was Giuseppe Garibaldi, who along with his army of comrades played a crucial role in the creation of the Italian nation. Garibaldi spent the final 27 years of his life on the small island of Caprera. The house, which has been preserved and is now a museum is situated just minutes from the brand new La Maddalena Hotel & Yacht Club, Sardinia, which will open this summer. The beautifully designed hotel and yacht club is located on the stunning archipelago of La Maddalena between Sardinia and Corsica. Relatively undiscovered and a National Park since 1996, the archipelago is made up of of more than 60 islands including Caprero, Santa Stefano, Spargi, Budelli, Santa Maria and Razzoli. The island is the perfect location for sailing, with its warm and breezy summer climate. The hotel has its own port and is the only location in North East Sardinia that has the capacity to host Maxi yachts. La Maddalena has Italy’s best sailing school and was home to the Italian navy until very recently. Nelson described it as ‘the most beautiful port in the world’ and chose the port as his base for the English fleet in order to keep the French, blockaded at Toulon, in check. La Maddalena Hotel & Yacht Club is part of Eleganzia Hotels & Spas renowned for the award winning Forte Village in Sardinia and Castel Monastero in Tuscany.
