Altia has decided to join Business Social Compliance Initiative, a business-driven initiative to improve working conditions in supply chains worldwide. The aim is to enhance Altia's possibilities and capabilities to develop responsible sourcing.

Altia has decided to join Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI), a business-driven initiative to improve working conditions in supply chains worldwide. The BSCI has almost 2000 participants, who are active in retail, wholesale or importing.

As a supplier to the Nordic alcohol retail monopolies, who are participants of BSCI, Altia has already been involved in the BSCI system since 2012. By becoming a BSCI participant itself, Altia aims to enhance its possibilities and capabilities to develop responsible sourcing in the long term.

By becoming a BSCI participant, Altia commits to implementing the principles outlined in the BSCI Code of Conduct throughout its supply chains and to monitoring the performance of its producers through BSCI social audits.

– Joining the BSCI is in line with our aim to provide consumers with products that are produced in a responsible manner and to promote a drinking culture that emphasizes responsible values, says CEO Pekka Tennilä.

–  As a BSCI participant we can plan our work better and be more proactive, and can for example arrange training to Altians and to our suppliers and partners.

Altia is currently the only wines and spirits importer in the Nordic and Baltic countries, who is a BSCI participant. Altia's participation in BSCI started 1st of April, 2017.

The Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI) is a business-driven initiative that provides a supply chain management system that supports companies to drive social compliance and improvements within their global supply chains. It is an initiative of the Foreign Trade Association, which represents the interests of its almost 2000 companies engaged in global commerce. The key tools of the BSCI are its Code of Conduct and the related Implementation System, which are based on international labour standards such as International Labor Organization (ILO) conventions and declarations, the United Nations (UN) Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and guidelines for multinational enterprises of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The BSCI develops tools and activities to monitor, train, share information and influence key actors towards improving labour conditions in the supply chains of participating companies.
