Law firm, Anthony Collins, has received a trio of accolades from the Birmingham Law Society, recognising the exceptional talent that is quickly becoming a hallmark for the firm, together with the business’ ongoing investment in the solicitors of tomorrow. The Birmingham Law Society Awards was an evening to remember for three of Anthony Collins’ leading lights; Rebecca Kershaw who won Trainee Solicitor of the Year; Helen Tucker, named Commercial Solicitor of the Year and Rankeshwar Batta, who received the award for the Private Client Solicitor of the Year. The firm won two of these awards last year as well. President of the Birmingham Law Society, Bernard Shepherd, described Anthony Collins, which also scooped the coveted Commercial Solicitor of the Year award last year as ‘a force to be reckoned with’. He went on to say that, “There judges were extremely impressed with the quality of their nominations, as well as the calibre of the people the firm put forward.” Two other lawyers in the firm were also short listed. Helen Tucker, a Partner at Anthony Collins specialising in litigation for the Housing sector, commented, “It was a wonderful evening and an honour to receive the Society’s award. Nowadays, I am very aware it is not enough to simply have the legal knowledge, clients want and deserve lawyers that take the time to get to know them and have an in-depth understanding of their sector. Client care sits firmly at the top of everyone’s agenda at Anthony Collins.” Rankeshwar Batta, also a Partner at Anthony Collins, is a specialist in clinical negligence and personal injury. With his genuine passion for representing society’s most vulnerable people and a commitment to social justice, it is little wonder that he has been named Private Client Solicitor of the Year. Rankeshwar continued; “These awards applaud the best of the region’s legal talent, they recognise professionalism and promote the highest of standards. “Three Law Society awards in one year reinforce our position as a leading firm within the region. Our reputation is built on our unique approach namely our commitment to tackling social injustice, our professionalism and our specialist expertise.” Donna Holmes, Solicitor, another example of the firm’s successful approach to training and development, achieved a diploma with the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), but more impressively, will be singled out at an awards ceremony in June for having achieved the highest mark in the country. Anthony Collins’ focus on nurturing and developing the best legal minds in the region continues to show in the practice’s client achievements. In February solicitors from Anthony Collins’ private client team successfully represented the family of David Gray in the high-profile inquest following his death from an overdose administered by an overseas doctor during an out-of-hours visit. While in the public sector, Anthony Collins has won a four year contract, which begins this month, with EM LawShare, the largest local authority consortium in the country, serving 50 local authorities in the East Midlands. 2010 is proving to be a year of achievements for Anthony Collins and they are certainly demonstrating that they are indeed, a ‘force to be reckoned with’.
