Wide open spaces, endless rural landscapes and an unspoilt coastline characterise the Wairarapa region of New Zealand. A cornucopia of small towns, sprawling vineyards and vibrant olive groves pepper the area, creating a hub of food and wine synonymous with the best gastronomic treats New Zealand has to offer. With the roots of the New Zealand wine industry firmly entrenched in places like Martinborough, wines from the Wairapara region are amongst the best in the world.

Awarded three Trophies for the 2010 vintage: Decanter New Zealand Pinot Noir over £10, IWC New Zealand Pinot Noir and IWC Wairarapa Pinot Noir; the Schubert Pinot Noir Block B 2008 is an internationally accoladed winner, and a superb example of New Zealand Pinot Noir at its best. Produced only in limited quantities, it has been listed by the specialist wine merchant for its concentration of fruity flavours, evocative spicy chocolate aromas and silky smooth structure. New Zealand is considered by many to produce some of the best examples of Pinot Noir outside of its native Burgundy, typically perfumed with intense flavours and hints of dark fruit. Harvested between the 10th and 15th of April 2008, the Schubert Wine Pinot Noir Block B 2008 is made from hand picked grapes, cultivated and carefully plucked at the Schubert Vineyard at the end of a long, hot summer and dry autumn. These perfect conditions were accompanied by an attention to detail that includes only storing two layers of grapes per basket, avoiding damage to the delicate skins and a gentle processing suited to the notoriously tricky Pinot Noir varietal. The New Zealand House of Wine’s award winning offering from the Schubert Wine vineyard may be purchased in any quantity or mixed-and-matched as required in cases of 1, 2, 3, 6 and 12 bottles. Its sweet black and red berry fruit flavours are coupled with suggestions of chocolate and spice thanks to its 14 months oak barrel aging, making it a perfect accompaniment to meaty dishes and Sunday roasts. It can be enjoyed now or cellared for up to 12 years. For more information and to buy online, visit http://www.nzhouseofwine.co.uk
