Can Technology from Forestry Improve Sustainable Soy Cultivation?

Report this content

Arevo, an innovative AgTech company, is introducing a groundbreaking seed coating product for soybeans, leveraging advanced technology from forestry. The product delivers organic nitrogen directly to the seed, enhancing early establishment and plant vigor with minimal inputs, nitrogen waste, and environmental footprint.

Founded on award-winning research from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Arevo is a science-driven biotech company specializing in plant nutrient uptake. Originally developed for the forestry industry, Arevo's products have already been used in cultivating hundreds of millions of forest seedlings for stimulating growth and reducing nutrient leakage. Now, the same precision nutrition technology has been adapted for soybean seed coating in Arevo Booster for soy.

This new product, in development since 2019, has undergone rigorous lab, greenhouse, and field testing across multiple locations, including the United States and Europe. Following extensive trials, Arevo Booster for soy is now ready for market introduction.

A Word from CEO Niklas Åström

“We are thrilled to launch our first commercial product for agriculture: Arevo Booster for soy. This non-microbial biostimulant enhances plant performance with fewer inputs. Based on an amino acid, it offers stability, consistent quality, and delivers nitrogen without leaching. This launch is a step toward our vision of reducing harmful fertilizer use and achieving zero nitrogen waste in agriculture,” says Niklas Åström, CEO of Arevo.

A Stable, Non-Microbial Biostimulant for Enhanced Productivity

Arevo Booster for soy increases yield potential with reduced inputs by improving nutrient use efficiency and stimulating microbial activity. It also enables precision placement of nutrients. The non-microbial formulation ensures on-seed stability and well controlled content, providing benefits to farmers through increased crop productivity and reduced reliance on additional nutrients.

Global field trials show Arevo Booster increases plant quality in soy by 8% (NDVI) and plant development by 7% compared to standard methods. Beyond strengthening plants, Arevo Booster also delivers tangible results in the form of increased yields, with an improvement of 4–6% more soybeans per hectare.

Reducing Chemical Inputs with Controlled Release Technology

Arevo Booster contains arginine, a natural source of organic nitrogen. Its unique formulation supports controlled release, improves root development, enhances microbial interaction, and strengthens overall plant vigor. Importantly, it does not inhibit nitrogen fixation. The strong positive charge of arginine allows it to bind to soil particles and roots, minimizing nitrogen leaching. In addition to environmental benefits, Arevo Booster reduces the need for expensive nutrient applications, helping farmers lower cultivation costs.

Arevo is a Swedish science-driven biotech company founded on groundbreaking research into plant nutrient uptake by Professor Torgny Näsholm. At the core of Arevo's mission is the discovery that the amino acid arginine enhances plants' natural mechanisms for nutrient and water absorption, while also promoting soil micro-life. This results in plants with expanded root systems, leading to enhanced size, strength and resilience against environmental stresses such as drought. Arevo's patented precision nutrition products are tailored for forestry, horticulture and agriculture. They play a pivotal role in the transition to more environmentally sustainable practices by reducing our reliance on mineral fertilizers and by curbing nitrogen leakage.

Operating from Umeå in northern Sweden, Arevo maintains a global presence and holds 60 patents. Notable investors in Arevo include Fort Knox, Navigare Ventures, Industrifonden, Stora Enso, Stiftelsen J C Kempes minne, Sveaskog, SweTree Technologies and SLU Holding.
