Array launches a new "network ready" compact controller for low-cost color printing NISC based JBIG controller sets new price performance benchmark Array, Sweden, announced today that it has developed a compact, high performance, low cost and network enabled controller solution, "ArrayBIG", targeted at workgroup color laser printers, high end InkJets and multifunction peripherals. The hardware solution is suitable for immediate integration by OEMs and offers the option of fully OEM customizable JBIG printer drivers for Windows 9x/Me, Windows 2000/XP and Linux/Mac OS 9. "We worked with Software 2000, the largest independent developer of printer drivers in the world and asked them to create drivers specifically for the Array Controller", commented Stefan Winström, President Array. "We are all excited by what has been achieved with this development", said Winström. Ian Ashmore, New Business Development Manager for Software 2000, commented, "The new ArrayBIG solution provides a break-through in performance, cost and ease of use. This fully integrated turnkey solution offers OEMs a truly competitive controller and printer driver solution and is ideal when short development time is critical". The ArrayBIG includes the unique Array NISCtm processor and provides USB, Ethernet and parallel I/O connectivity. The printer driver uses the industry-standard JBIG compression format for datastream efficiency across the network. Printer drivers available for the controller are delivered as "WHQL ready" for the Microsoft Windows platform. The ArrayBIG is expected to deliver a complete turnkey board and driver solution for less than $100 and will typically drive a networked, 5/20 ppm multipass desktop color laser printer at rated speed. The maximum performance of the ArrayBIG will be up to 20 ppm for desktop color printers using the NISCtm processor and JBIG compression technology.
