Art of Spectra at Folkteatern in Gothenburg
On April 9, 10 and 12, the Gothenburg-based dance company Art of Spectra will make a guest appearance at Folkteatern in Gothenburg with its performance of I remember. This multi-genre presentation will bring together dance, theatre, music, video and pictorial art.
I remember is centred on memories. Memories that are portrayed in the movements of the dancers and interwoven with other forms of visual expression, such as video and photographic art, accompanied by specially adapted electronic music. The production is a collaborative venture with Vara Konserthus and since it opened in November, it has been a resounding success with guest appearances throughout Sweden. On April 9, 10 and 12, Art of Spectra will perform at Folkteatern in Gothenburg. Peter Svenzon, choreographer and composer for Art of Spectra, says: "It's a great delight to be able to perform I remember on home ground here in Gothenburg. At Folkteatern we have the opportunity to reach a wide audience and we hope it will attract a lot of interest." |

Art of Spectra was founded in 1998 and over the years it has made a name for itself both at home and abroad. The choreography embodies martial arts and breakdance as well as classic and contemporary dance. The traversing nature of the dance, shifting between diverse art forms, including dance, theatre, music, video and pictorial art, has become the hallmark of this unique group. Ulriqa Fernqvist, dancer and choreograph assistant at Art of Spectra, says: "Peter's choreography is physical and expressive. As dancers we really have the opportunity to use the full potential of our bodies and the result is a fascinating encounter between the artistic foundation and the raw energy in the breakdance features." |
Party in the Foyer Bar
Following the final performance on April 12, Art of Spectra will hold a party in the Foyer Bar at Folkteatern with music, socialising and artistic diversions varying in form and nature.
Ulriqa Fernqvist explains: "Directly after the performance on Saturday we will launch straight into what we call an Arty Farty Club – a club inspired by the artistic inimitability of Berlin. The guests can expect an evening that will go beyond the norm, with music, dance and other forms of aesthetic expression. It will be an evening when anything could happen."
On two fronts
Art of Spectra is currently in the news on two fronts. Alongside the performance at Folkteatern, Peter Svenzon will choreograph GöteborgsOperans Danskompani in the forthcoming Northern (de)Lights programme, which will have its premiere on April 25. Northern (de)Lights is a series of dance works where five choreographers have created a Northern European interpretation of the theme Mind & Spirit. The programme will run from April 25 until May 7.

Later in the autumn, there will be the premiere of a new work from Art of Spectra – Fragment – which will be performed at Dansmuseet in Stockholm and will run from September 24 until October 5. See performance schedule below. http://www.dansmuseet.se/
