Art of Spectra performed at Stora Teatern in Gothenburg
The dance company Art of Spectra recently staged Fragment at Stora Teatern in Gothenburg. Fragment is a dance show about a memory that you do not have full access to. It could be a picture, a sense of an event or perhaps a dream. Or fragments of a life, of a meeting. Film clips and sound are as important as the choreography. Some of the texts are based on true stories and memories from the dancers and participants as well as one text from Robert Ashley’s opera “That morning thing”.
“Fragment’s perspective differs from the previous works in the same suite”, says Peter Svenzon, choreographer and music composer, Art of Spectra.
Fragment is the last part of the suite I Remember. The first part, Ingress, dealt with universal questions and opened at Fotografiska in Stockholm in 2013 while I Remember, characterised by powerful visual poetry, was performed at Vara Konserthus. I Remember won an award for the Magic of the Year in 2014 from Scenkonstguiden. Fragment was performed for the first time in Sweden in Stockholm last autumn and the very first performance took place at the OuDance festival in Oulu, Finland.
This summer, Art of Spectra will perform at festivals in Germany and on Cyprus. Next spring, the dance group will go on tour, performing at 9 venues, with Dansnät Sweden.
This was the first time Art of Spectra performed at Stora Teatern in Gothenburg since Peter Svenzon performed there with Art of Spectra’s debut production Relationer in 1998.

After the show, the audience was invited to take part in a public discussion with Tasso Stafilides, actor, author, marriage officiant and former Swedish MP. He also has the operational responsibility for Göteborgs Kulturkalas, a cultural festival, and is operation manager for West Pride in Gothenburg.

About Art of Spectra
Since it was formed in 1998, the Gothenburg-based dance company Art of Spectra has produced some 30 dance works under the leadership of choreographer and composer Peter Svenzon. His artistic expression is very physical, thus directly communicating with the audience. The choreography is influenced by martial arts and breakdance as well as classical and contemporary dance. Dancing is based on merging and integrating different art forms such as dance, theatre, music, video and pictorial art and this has become their hallmark. In 2014, Art of Spectra won award in the category Magic of the Year from Scenkonstguiden and Peter Svenzon was awarded the Swedish Arts Grants Committee’s long-term scholarship.
