Artimplant expand the field of application for Artelon®

Artimplant´s highly porous Artelon® Scaffold has been used as a carrier for hyaluronic acid in a soft tissue application with good results.

The results from an implantation study in an animal model showed that Artelon® is an excellent carrier for an active substance such as hyaluronic acid. The results will be presented August 30 at the conference Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine in Linköping, Sweden. “By using Artelon® Scaffold as a carrier for hyaluronic acid, Artelon® can create volume as well as prolonged presence of hyaluronic acid in the tissue. This is an important step in the Company´s systematic development of products for the regeneration of tissue” says CEO Tord Lendau. ”This does not imply any immediate revenues but will, in the long run, increase the use of Artelon®” Tord Lendau points out. The results from the implantation study in an animal model showed that Artelon® had a high degree of biocompatibility, tissue ingrowth and formation of new vessels. The combination of Artelon® and hyaluronic acid resulted in a faster tissue ingrowth and formation of new vessels compared to control Artelon®. The new combination of Artelon® and hyaluronic acid is above all applicable within plastic and reconstructive surgery.
