ASETEK Commences Work on Major Department of Defense Data Center
October 23, 2013 – Asetek today announced that it has completed contract negotiations with the US Department of Defense (DoD) and has begun work on its retrofit project with a major DoD data center facility which was announced December 7, 2012. The project will run for three years and has a budget of $2.4 million dollars primarily sponsored by the DoD’s Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP). Asetek has recognized revenue from the project for Q3 2013.
The project will leverage Asetek’s innovative RackCDU™ Direct-to-Chip (D2C™) hot-water liquid cooling technology to convert the existing air-cooled enterprise data center into a high-performance liquid-cooled enterprise data center. The DoD data center will benefit from savings in energy consumption and improvements in density that enable data center consolidation without disrupting current operations during the transition. In addition to this deployment, this ESTCP project includes funding to promote the results of the deployment and adoption of Asetek RackCDU technology across the entire stock of DoD data centers.
Multiple Federal mandates are driving the DoD to increase energy efficiency, increase the use of renewable energy and to consolidate data centers. Similar mandates affect data centers operated by other departments of the Federal government.
About RackCDU D2C
RackCDU with D2C (Direct-to-Chip) Liquid Cooling is a hot water, direct-to-chip, data center liquid cooling system that enables cooling energy savings exceeding 50% and density increases of 5x when compared to modern air cooled data centers. D2C removes heat from CPUs, GPUs, memory modules and other hot spots within servers and takes it all the way out of the data center using liquid.
