Next generation transport technology accelerates digital workflows, reduces cost and improves efficiency

LONDON, England – 22 November, 2011—Aspera, Inc., creators of next-generation software technologies that move the world’s digital assets at maximum speed, today announced that Australian cable and satellite channels TV1 and SciFi have selected Aspera for high-speed data transport across their broadcast supply chain management infrastructure. By replacing existing tape-based workflows, the new implementation will reduce costs while shortening content procurement lead times and ensuring delivery.

TV1 and SciFi are jointly owned by Sony International Television, NBC Studios and Paramount, all of which already implement Aspera file-transfer software. Those organisations, along with all content partners, have been moving rapidly toward digital content, and the Australian channels needed an efficient means of transferring and managing the associated media files received over their existing Internet connection.

“We needed to shift to a file-based workflow to cut costs and shorten production cycles, but it presented us with the challenge of managing and transferring large media files,” said Will Usic, creative director at TV1/SciFi. “And with our owners, partners and providers already using Aspera, it was an easy choice to select Aspera and become part of the broader community.”

Broadcast and satellite operators across the globe have moved toward digital workflows as a way to reduce operational costs and increase efficiency. The transition means that operators are now transferring big data file sets, which puts new pressure on existing network infrastructures. Aspera has emerged as the choice to help operators move, manage and automate file-based workflows.

“We are very pleased to have been selected by Australia’s TV1 and SciFi to meet their file-transfer needs,” said John Wastcoat, vice president at Aspera. “With more than 1,300 customers worldwide, Aspera software has become the de facto standard for transfer and management of large files at maximum speed over global distances. With this deployment, TV1 and SciFi can collaborate globally in near real-time, shorten production cycles and cut costs with no changes to their existing network infrastructure.”
