Aspiro TV, Europe’s leading provider of TV and video streaming services introduce a ground-breaking new multi-screen platform for its compelling TV and video streaming services, allowing telcos, broadcasters, content owners and advertisers access to augment the video experience by adding contextual web-based interactive content and services to the live TV or Video on Demand services.

By simply adding an augmented layer on top or at the side of the video layer, Aspiro TV will introduce to the market a seamless way for third parties to add any feature to the live TV or video broadcast. Aspiro TV is demonstrating this new platform at the IBC 2011 in Amsterdam.

Adding the augmentation element with over-the-top contextual experience enables third parties partner services with no access barrier, reusing their existing web services with minimal effort. Typical elements would be adding graphics and text to the video according to the nature of the displayed video content, allowing for instance sports scores on TV during a match, contextual betting, promotions, real-time voting or recommendations. This opens up a wide range of additional revenue streams that will enable Aspiro TV customers to improve ROI on their TV and video services.

As all services will also inherit in-app logics: user authentication and billing will be automatic, allowing users to interact in real time without ever leaving the video view or making additional log-ins. HTML5 for the augmented layers also enables immediate portability across platforms throughout the entire front-end application range delivered by Aspiro TV, including mobile phones (iPhone, Android, Windows Phone 7, etc), tablets (iPad, Android Honeycomb, etc), web browsers (PC/Mac), Open SetTopBoxes (Google TV, Xbox, etc) and connected TVs (Samsung SmartTV, etc), making time-to-market extremely fast.

“The augmentation element opens a world of new possibilities through our services, as we can now offer our partners and third parties a direct opportunity to interact with users while they are watching video or TV. Providing this through HTML also makes it simple and quick to update the applications across all screens, which is key as consumer expectations are constantly climbing” says Erling Paulsen, CEO of Aspiro TV.

Aspiro TV provides compelling TV and video services to operators and broadcasters who wish to use their own brand on the service, and delivers to the likes of Deutsche Telekom, Telefónica O2, Hi3G and Telenor.
