Rubberduck Media Lab, a subsidiary of Aspiro AB and Europe’s leading provider of streaming mobile TV services, has been shortlisted for the 2010 Meffys Award for its mobile TV services that it provides for Telekom Deutschland in Germany. This is the seventh award that Rubberduck has been shortlisted for over the last years.

The service features live soccer, news, entertainment and other linear TV. The channels are available on the iPhone as well as an Android application. Live soccer has exceeded expectations and has proved to be very popular content. This mobile TV service is not restricted to just iPhone and Android phones but is available through a range of other apps for the mass handsets. The service also is available via a WAP Portal.

Also shortlisted in the TV and video service category are companies CBS Mobile for ‘TV.com Android and iPhone Mobile’, MTS for ‘Omlet.ru’, Orange for ‘Mobile TV Player ‘ and T-Mobile and Saffron Digital for ‘Video-on-Demand Plus’. The winner last year was the BBC for its BBC iPlayer on mobile.

Rubberduck Media Lab was also shortlisted for the Meffys in 2009, for its services to Sonofon (now Telenor) in Denmark, and in 2008, for its Studio:1 Mobile TV Platform.

As the industry's official benchmark for measuring success and rewarding innovation, the Meffys Awards, now in their seventh year, recognize and honour the most influential mobile media  players from around the world. This year, entries cover over 60 countries, and it is judged by 45 journalists and analysts. The Mobile Entertainment Forum are expecting over 400 international industry leaders and press to attend the Meffys gala dinner on 21 June in London this year.

“We appreciate once again being recognized for our efforts to develop a Mobile TV service focused on creating great end-user experiences,” said Erling Paulsen, CEO of Rubberduck Media Lab. He adds “The combination of our user-friendly application and a solid backend, with Deutsche Telekom’s premium content, attractive pricing and strong marketing, generated huge increases in traffic making the service a great success.”

Aspiro is also shortlisted for the Meffys in the category of Best Music Service with its streaming service, which is launched in Norway and Denmark with the WiMP brand.
