Across Wireless and Aspiro in co-operation to bring WAP services to legacy phones Across Wireless (Across), the Swedish wireless Internet company, and Aspiro, the leading Swedish wireless application provider, today announced their co-operation in making Aspiro's extensive WAP application portfolio available on millions of mobile handsets already in consumer hands. -By making our applications available from SIM based WML browsers we extend the reach of our WAP applications, thus significantly improving the business case for operators, says Jörgen Adolfsson, CEO, Aspiro. By supporting access to WML-based content from both WAP phones and legacy SIM Toolkit phones, Across products give operators and service providers the competitive edge in the coming battle over mobile data users. - We're very pleased to be working with the leading wireless application provider to address the mass market already today, says Per Lundh, Director of Marketing & Business Development, Across. He continues, Our products also bring in the missing security component making it possible to sign transactions from WAP or SIM Toolkit phones. This will even further strengthen our respective roles in the mobile commerce area. Facts about the Technology The Across delivery platform consists of application server software with an integrated wireless internet gateway, together with a 'micro' browser which run on the SIM smart cards found in all GSM mobile devices. The Across delivery platform enables WAP (WML) applications to run on today's installed base of phones and to run the same applications on WAP devices as they become established in the future. Through its SIM card application expertise, Across is also able to integrate additional, high value SIM- based functionality including end-to-end security.
