Soon it will be possible to trade in shares with your mobile telephone. The new service, based on WAP technology, is the result of a collaboration between Europolitan, Aspiro and Aktiedirekt, and will be launched as soon as there are WAP telephones on the market.

The new service is a mobile version of the on-line share trading service Aktiedirekt, and enables real-time share trading via a mobile telephone. "The potential of electronic commerce over mobile telephones is huge," says Jonas Sundsvall of Aktiedirekt. "The number of users of the on-line share trading service in Sweden has gone from zero to 140,000 since 1996, of a total of 4.8 million Swedish shareholders. Globally there are now 5 million users of on-line share trading services." There are already more mobile telephone users in Sweden than there are Internet users, so the potential impact of e-commerce via mobile telephones is huge. And this newly launched service is the first step in this direction. "This service makes e-commerce via the Internet mobile," says Michael Kluge, Marketing Director at Europolitan. "So the mobile telephone, which you can take with you anywhere you go, will be an important tool when e-commerce really gets up and running."i All you need to use this new service is a Europolitan subscription and a WAP telephone. WAP stands for Wireless Application Protocol, and is a new technology enabling the transfer of services and information from the Internet to a mobile telephone. It is expected that the first WAP telephone will be launched before the summer. The telecom company Aspiro developed the software, Europolitan performed the integration in the mobile telephony network and Aktiedirekt added the content.
