Telenor Mobil and Aspiro to jointly promote WAP services in Norway

The Norwegian GSM operator, Telenor Mobil, and Aspiro, the Swedish wireless applications and services group, have formed a new partnership for the purpose of marketing and informing a wider general public about mobile Internet. The principle aim of the two companies is to explain and demonstrate the services that can presently be used with mobile devices. The partnership will be launched with a series of seminars in different cities in Norway.

“Of all the new technologies that are constantly being presented to the consumer, mobile Internet is something that can really improve and make everyday life easier both for private consumers and professional users,” says Johan-Fredrik Haugen at Telenor Mobil, “However, cell phone services employing WAP technology sometimes need to be explained and demonstrated to consumers so they can see and experience for themselves the advantages to be gained with the new technology.” Aspiro and Telenor Mobil are planning a series of seminars in Norway to demonstrate how to use WAP services. The first roadshow, due to begin in April, will visit Bergen, Trondheim and Oslo. The first service to be presented is Aspiro Fleet Manager, a service primarily aimed at transportation, logistics and delivery companies. With Aspiro Fleet Manager transport management will now be able to communicate with any driver via a standard PC, the Internet and a WAP-enabled cell phone. The service both facilities and makes transport management more efficient, and companies employing the service will not need to invest in expensive equipment or special technology. “Aspiro Fleet manager is just one example of the many WAP-based services we offer,” says Harald Nesset at Aspiro. “For example, you can also send and receive e-mail and faxes with a mobile device.
