Assurant Employee Benefits recognized for socially responsible business practices
Innovative 'Change Your World' program wins Communitas Award
Kansas City, Mo., (Nov. 17, 2010) – Assurant Employee Benefits was recently recognized for its socially responsible business practices by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP) for its ‘Change Your World’ program, created by the company to show the impact that $100 can have on a non-profit organization. The Change Your World program, which won two Communitas Awards for Specific Volunteer Project and Leadership in Community Service, encourages employees to think creatively about ways to give back.
Established in 2009, Change Your World gives groups of employees $100 in seed money to spend as they wish on the charity of their choice. Employee teams have done everything from providing transportation for people with disabilities to hosting a bake sale and silent auction that raised $1,760 for charity. Overall, the eight initial seed funds have contributed thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of volunteer work to Kansas City non-profits.
“We are very proud of Change Your World. It engages our employees and lets them think creatively about how they can make a difference,” said John Roberts, president and chief executive officer, Assurant Employee Benefits. “This recognition is an added bonus, but the real stars are the people who have dedicated time and energy to these committees and the non-profits they have served. We aim to infuse some of that passion and social responsibility into the ways we do business every day.”

The Communitas Award is an international effort to recognize the spirit of communitas – people helping people. Communitas winners unselfishly give of themselves and their resources, and are changing the way they do business to benefit their communities.
“By recognizing individuals, organizations and companies for their volunteerism and socially responsible business practices, we are hoping to not only bring attention to great programs, but are working with community minded leaders to make the spirit of communitas an essential element of every business,” said Ed Dalheim, executive director of AMCP.
