Isol arrives in Sweden
On Saturday this year’s recipient of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA), illustrator Isol, arrives in Stockholm. During one week she will meet the general public, colleagues, the book industry as well as press and media in Stockholm, Vimmerby and Munich.
Isol, Marisol Misenta, is an illustrator, cartoonist, painter, graphic artist, poet, singer and composer. She was born in 1972 and lives in Buenos Aires. Isol is considered as the one of the best picturebook artists in the world. On March 26 she was announced as the 2013 recipient of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, the world’s largest literature award for children and young adults. The Award amounts to 5 million Swedish kronor (approx. 542 000 EUR).
Isol’s more than twenty works have now been published in almost as many countries. Just in time for the award ceremony in Stockholm, two of her books will be published in Swedish for the first time, Petit il monstruo (Alfabeta) and Numeralia (Lilla Piratförlaget)
The award week begins on Monday 20 with Isol leading workshops for school classes at Kulturhuset (House of Culture) in Stockholm. Pupils of different ages will work thematically with subjects found in Isol’s books. The award lecture will also take place at Kulturhuset on May 21.This will be a public discussion between Isol and researcher, critic and jury member Ulla Rhedin. The award week crescendo is the award ceremony at the Stockholm Concert Hall on May 27 when H.R.H Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden presents the award to Isol.
