The world’s largest award for children’s and young adult literature to be announced on April 2

Welcome to cover the 17th announcement of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) on Tuesday, April 2. The Swedish award amounts to EUR 570 000 and is presented annually in honour of the author Astrid Lindgren. 

For this year’s award, 246 candidates from 64 countries are nominated. Last year’s laureate was the American author Jacqueline Woodson. The 2019 laureate will be announced in Stockholm, Sweden on April 2 at 12:50 pm CET by Jury Chair Boel Westin in connection with the jury’s final meeting. The Swedish Minister of Culture and Democracy, Amanda Lind, will give a speech. The event is broadcast live on alma.se/en, on Facebook and Twitter.
