New Atlanta History Center Exhibition Opens April 14, 2012

WHAT:                      

Greetings from Atlanta: A Postcard Retrospective draws from the Atlanta History Center’s extensive collection of more than 3,000 postcards to provide fascinating glimpses of Atlanta and Georgia, while exploring various styles, printing technology, and social history aspects as uncovered by the unique details of its postmark, its message, its sender, and its recipient.  With more than 200 postcards on display depicting changing skylines, street scenes, businesses, homes, restaurants, neighborhoods, amusements, attractions, people, and politics, this exhibition provides an interesting and unique opportunity to observe our evolving culture.

The exhibition is generously supported by the Georgia Postcard Club.

WHEN:                      

On display April 14, 2012 through January 27, 2013.

Exhibition is available to view Wednesday – Saturday from 10 am – 5 pm.

ABOUT THE ATLANTA HISTORY CENTER:

Founded in 1926, the Atlanta History Center is an all-inclusive, thirty-three acre destination featuring the Atlanta History Museum, one of the Southeast’s largest interactive history museums; two historic houses, the 1928 Swan House and the 1860 Smith Family Farm; the Centennial Olympic Games Museum; the Kenan Research Center; the Grand Overlook event space; Chick-Fil-A at the Coca-Cola Café, a museum shop, and acres of Historic Gardens with paths and the kid-friendly Connor Brown Discovery Trail.

In addition, the History Center operates the Margaret Mitchell House.  Located in Midtown Atlanta, the two-acre campus features tours of the apartment where Margaret Mitchell wrote her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Gone With the Wind, an exhibition highlighting the life of Margaret Mitchell, a Gone With the Wind movie exhibition, and a museum shop.
