Stockholm, Sweden, March 9, 2018: Atlas Copco, a leading provider of sustainable productivity solutions, has started powering its compressor factory in Chakan, India, almost exclusively with solar cells. The move contributes to Atlas Copco’s goal to continuously reduce the environmental impact from its operations.

The state-of-the-art factory is manufacturing industrial and portable compressors for the Indian and Global market. About 80% of the energy used at the facility is now renewable, reducing the carbon dioxide emissions with 600 tons annually.
Energy efficiency is a top priority for Atlas Copco, and we are proud of how this modern factory in India is setting a new standard for manufacturing facilities,” said Vagner Rego, President of Atlas Copco’s Compressor Technique business area. “This is a win-win as it benefits the environment and our bottom line.”
The facility of 19 000 square meters includes a manufacturing plant and an engineering office building. It was built in accordance with LEED (Leadership in Environmental Energy and Design.)

Energy efficiency has been a major focus at the facility since the start in 2013. For example, the roof is insulated to avoid the need for air conditioning. It also has an eco-friendly design for rainfall harvesting that allows water autonomy for eight months a year.
The solar cell investments in India are Atlas Copco’s latest initiative to reduce the environmental impact of its operations. Other recent examples include the installation of solar boilers on the roof of the service center of the major compressor plant in Antwerp, Belgium.
