Antwerp, Belgium, July 3, 2012: Atlas Copco has won an order for turbocompressors to be installed at an onshore LNG facility in Northern Territory, Australia. The project, operated by INPEX Corporation with partner Total S.A. will produce liquefied natural gas (LNG) using natural gas from the Ichthys Field.

The order, worth approximately MUSD 17 (MSEK 116), was issued by the JKC Australia LNG in the second quarter and consists of turboexpanders and air compressors. The machines are scheduled for delivery in Q3, 2013.

Gas from the Ichthys Field in the Browse Basin, approximately 200 kilometers offshore of Western Australia, will undergo preliminary offshore processing to remove water and extract condensate. The gas will then be transported to onshore processing facilities in Darwin, Australia, via an 890-kilometer subsea pipeline. The project is expected to produce 8.4 million tons of LNG and 1.6 million tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) per year.

Atlas Copco turboexpanders will be used in gas treatment, while the three-stage air compressors will produce instrument air for use at the onshore plant.

Atlas Copco’s substantial LNG knowledge and references, combined with our ability to meet the precise and rigorous specifications of this project, helped us win this order,” says Stephan Kuhn, Business Area President Compressor Technique.

Responsible for engineering, procurement, and construction of the onshore facilities, the JKC Australia LNG Joint Venture consists of JGC Corporation, KBR, and Chiyoda Corporation.
