Nacka, Sweden, March 17, 2021: Atlas Copco has achieved a 28% reduction in CO2 emissions from the energy consumption in operations and transport of goods. This is in relation to cost of sales and compared to a 2018 baseline.

“This is great progress towards our goal to reduce CO₂ emissions,” said Mats Rahmström, President and CEO of the Atlas Copco Group.  “The results show how the organization has responded to the need to reduce our climate impact and increase resource efficiency.”

The goal is to reduce the combined CO₂ emissions from energy in the Group’s own operations and transport of goods by 50% by 2030, in relation to cost of sales. The baseline is 2018 and since then a reduction of 28% has been achieved. In 2019 the reduction was 19% and in 2020 it was 12% compared with the previous year.

“There is an effect from the COVID-19-pandemic in 2020,” said Mats Rahmström. “But the reductions are also the result of actions taken to reduce the use of airfreight and increase the use of renewable electricity.”

Atlas Copco has undertaken a wide range of actions to achieve the target: buying renewable electricity, installing solar panels, switching to biofuels in portable compressor testing, and implementing energy conservation measures, logistics planning improvements as well as switching to more environmentally friendly transport.

We know that for us the impact from our own operations and transport is low in comparison with the value chain as a whole,” said Mats Rahmström. “The climate crisis is the challenge of our time and we all need to step up and reduce our footprint. We still have a long way to go and will continue our efforts to continue to offer the most energy-efficient solutions and support our customers to achieve their sustainability ambitions.”
