Swedens' first TETRA system in Gothenberg Gothenberg's tram company will be ordering Sweden's first commercial TETRA system. TETRA (TErrestrial Trunked Radio) is a radio system on the march in Europe. The system was originally intended as a common radio standard for public emergency services such as police, ambulance and fire departments. Today a growing number of commercial networks are being built, the first in Sweden to be owned and operated by Gothenberg's tram company. AerotechTelub Contracting who have been awarded the contract, have in turn appointed Avitec AB in Järfälla as the subcontractor for radio coverage in the tramway tunnels. Avitec AB is a leading manufacturer of repeaters and repeater systems for radio communication in shielded environments. e.g. tunnels and large buildings. The worlds first TETRA repeater system was designed and installed by Avitec AB at Gardemoen airport in Norway three years ago and the company is of course proud to be playing an important role in Sweden's first TETRA project. Avitec is already well known for it's radio coverage solutions in Stockholm's underground rail system and in the railway tunnels under Arlanda airport. A brief word about Avitec AB Avitec AB is part of the 3i group. In May 2001 3i gained control of Avitec through it's acquisition of the Atle investment company. Avitec is located in Järfälla just north of Stockholm and offers qualified technical services in the radio communications field. The company manufactures repeaters for a very wide range of applications, such as GSM900, GSM 1800, GSM-R, TETRA a.o.
