Atrium Ljungberg has signed a lease contract with SISAB, Skolfastigheter i Stockholm AB, for an upper-secondary school in Slakthusområdet. The school, which is planned to open ahead of the start of the school year in 2026, will house some 800 students and comprise just over 6,000 square metres of letting area.

“Stockholm is being built through collaborative efforts, which even includes social properties. It is therefore gratifying that we are now taking this initial, important step towards creating a new upper secondary school in Slakthusområdet. The area as a whole will serve as a prime example of how we create an attractive, modern and innovative urban district featuring a mix of functions and vibrant street life,” says Joakim Larsson (M), City Planning.

Slakthusområdet is one of Stockholm's largest urban development projects, where Atrium Ljungberg will be developing around 200,000 square metres of GFA by 2030 for, among other things, offices, residentials, culture and education.

“Our objective is for the new Slakthusområdet to reflect the innovative dynamism that put Sweden on the world map. One of the key factors in the Swedish innovation system is collaboration between the education system, business, civil society and contractors. Placing education at different levels, side by side with business, creative networks and culture is key to the strategy for the development of Slakthusområdet,” says Annica Ånäs, CEO of Atrium Ljungberg.

The new upper secondary school is planned to comprise some 6,000 square metres of letting area with an estimated investment of SEK 320 million and a contract period of 15 years. The ambition is to certify the building with Miljöbyggnad Gold. The lease contract is to be approved by the City Council on 13 June 2022 and the detailed plan is up for adoption in August 2022. The upper secondary school will be built in the north-western part of Slakthusområdet.

Atrium Ljungberg already owns a number of innovative school properties. Examples include Kunskapsgallerian in Sickla with a number of upper secondary schools, Nod in Kista with university, upper secondary school and offices integrated in the same building, and BAS Barkarby, where Järfälla municipality's theoretical upper secondary education, cultural and sports facilities are integrated with operators in the business community.
