ATS Euromaster is reminding fleet drivers that they can take advantage of a free brake check to ensure their cars and vans have maximum stopping power to help tackle the heavy downpours battering the UK.

Braking in wet and slippery road conditions can drastically increase the chances of vehicles skidding – making sure a car or van’s brakes are in optimum condition is essential. Department for Transport Statistics recorded in 2012* show that 62,852 cars were reported in accidents on wet roads or in floods, and 3,663 light commercials. These accidents represented 32% of all reported accidents involving cars and 29% of all reported accidents involving light commercials**.

ATS Euromaster’s free brake check includes a thorough inspection of the vehicle’s brake pads, brake discs and visible brake pipes and callipers – with any necessary remedial work highlighted to the driver by expert technicians. Technicians will also inspect the tyres – which also play a critical role in a vehicle’s ability to stop safely.

Peter Fairlie, ATS Euromaster’s Group Sales Director, says: “Given the number of Met Office weather warnings we are seeing, and the persistent wet weather which has blighted much of the country for weeks, we are urging both motorists and fleets to give their vehicles some extra ‘TLC’. Fleets can’t afford vehicle downtime as the result of an accident, much less potential injury to a driver or other road users; a free brake check between scheduled services is a simple way of maximising safety and supporting Duty of Care.

“Having confidence in your brakes is also one less thing for drivers to worry about when battling the wettest conditions experienced in a long time.”

The complimentary check is suitable for all makes and model of car and van up to 3.5 tonnes, and there is no need to book an appointment.
