Tyre specialist ATS Euromaster has reaffirmed its commitment to ring-fencing cold weather tyre stocks for businesses and public sector organisations this winter, echoing a pledge it made when it became the first national supplier to launch a winter tyre service for fleets in 2010.

The guarantee gives added reassurance to fleets which rely on ATS Euromaster to keep their cars and vans safely mobile when the temperatures plummet.  For winter 2012/2013, this will include more than 25 ‘blue light’ emergency service operators – plus some of the largest home delivery companies, logistics firms and utility fleets in the country.

Peter Fairlie, Group Sales Director of ATS Euromaster, says: “We know that the first signs of snow can see a huge demand for cold weather fitments from the retail market – and with that the risk of UK stocks selling out in days.  It’s why we’ve committed to holding-back supplies in each of the key sizes for fleets fitting cold weather tyres throughout the colder months.

“These customers want the reassurance of being able to access product in the event of wear or damage meaning they need replacements mid-winter, even in the event that heavy snowfall has left the country’s stock depleted.  It’s particularly crucial for blue-light operators, where vehicle availability can make the difference between life and death.”

Cold weather tyres deliver considerably shorter stopping distances on both wet and dry roads at temperatures below 7 degrees Celsius, in addition to offering impressive traction credentials on snow, slush and ice.  They also ensure increased longevity compared with summer tyres during winter motoring; conditions which would normally see tyre life reduced by up to 20 per cent.

Last winter the Met Office recorded 147 separate days between 1 October 2011 and 31 March 2012 when temperatures dropped below 7 degrees Celsius during prime commuting hours in 10 major UK cities (measured from 7am till 9am and 4pm till 6pm).
