AU-System Shows Next Generation Mobile Internet Browser CommunicAsia 2001, Singapore - June 19, 2001 - AU-System today showed a preview version of their new mobile Internet browser, AUS WAP Browser 2.0. The new browser is compatible with both existing and future WAP protocols, including fixed Internet protocols, HTTP and TCP/IP. The browser is also capable of running existing WAP applications as well as next generation WAP, i-mode and Internet applications. The browser complies with the "M-Services Guidelines", a new recommendation recently issued by the GSM Association. The new version enables handset and PDA manufacturers to tailor the browser for plug-ins, security and user interface, and to customise the memory capacity and screen size. Functions that can be supported through plug-ins include e-mail, MMS, Java and a wide range of mark-up languages like HTML and i-mode's cHTML. "No other browser is this flexible when it comes to user interface and customisation; it's even open for technologies that are not yet in existence," says Christer Björk, Business Area Manager at AU-System. "AUS WAP Browser 2.0 further strengthens AU-System's leading position within the mobile Internet market." The demonstration of AUS WAP Browser 2.0 shows a number of applications developed in co-operation between AU-System and the Japanese content supplier, Cybird, who today is a large supplier of cHTML based services in Japan. The services have been converted to XHTML, the new Internet mark-up language. The demonstration version is running on Palm OS on a Palmtm m505 communicating via Bluetooth. The AUS WAP Browser 2.0 will be released during the third quarter of this year. At the time of the release the browser will include full support for the new WAP 2.0 standard, which is also expected to be completed during the third quarter. The new version of the AUS WAP Browser 2.0 will be demonstrated in AU- System's booth (6L3-10) at CommunicAsia 2001 on June 19-22, 2001 in Singapore.
