AudioDev first in the world - again In October, AudioDev will launch the first analyzer for DVD +RW discs on the market. This launch, together with the launch of the DVD -R/RW (recordable and re-writable) analyzer last spring, will make AudioDev the first company in the world to provide analyzers for both formats. This means that no matter if plus or minus finally becomes the standard format, AudioDev will set the de facto standard. The launch has had a great effect and has already resulted in a number of orders. The interest in writable DVD formats is continuously increasing, especially in Japan. The plus and minus R/RW-formats During recent years there has been confusion about different writable DVD formats. Companies like Sony, Philips and Thompson have gathered behind DVD+RW, while another group headed by Pioneer and Panasonic have invested in DVD -R/RW. The first writable format to be launched was - R/RW, and the reason for some companies choosing to develop another format (now called +RW) is that playability in ordinary DVD players is better for +RW. There are therefore currently two formats on the market, and nobody can say for sure which one of the two formats will become the standard format in the future.
