Aurobay to deliver powertrain solutions to Turkish industrial giant Habaş
Aurobay, a HORSE Powertrain company, has signed a significant agreement with the Turkish industrial conglomerate Habaş Sınai ve Tıbbi Gazlar İstihsal Endüstrisi A.Ş. Under the agreement, Aurobay will supply complete powertrain solutions for Habaş' new passenger cars, with production scheduled to start by the end of 2026.
The agreement with Habaş marks Aurobay's first major OEM contract outside Europe and China and is an important step in its strategy to expand its product portfolio and reach new markets. This announcement comes after Aurobay joined HORSE Powertrain Limited on Friday 31 May.
“We are extremely pleased to be working with Habaş, a partner that shares our vision of innovation and quality. We look forward to delivering our groundbreaking solutions to the Turkish market”, said Michael Fleiss, CEO of Aurobay Sweden.
Matias Giannini, HORSE Powertrain Limited CEO said, “This is HORSE Powertrain’s first contract as an independent company and reinforces the value of our scale, capabilities and global footprint. He added, “The contract will be delivered by Aurobay from our Sweden and China facilities, highlighting our commitment to leveraging our global expertise to deliver state-of-the-art powertrain solutions.”
Aurobay, known for its innovation and quality in engine and transmission technology, has focused on offering complete powertrain solutions for OEM customers such as Volvo Cars and Geely. The agreement with Habaş marks a milestone in its expansion strategy.
Habaş, an established industrial conglomerate in Türkiye, is diversifying its businesses by entering the automotive industry with the launch of a range of electric, diesel and hydrogen powered buses, midibuses and trucks, produced in accordance with international standards using the latest technology. In addition to its new Commercial Vehicle Manufacturing plant in Manisa, HABAŞ has also acquired the closing HONDA Türkiye production plant in Şekerpınar to produce passenger cars.
“We are delighted to be cooperating with Aurobay, who provides fuel-efficient high-performance powertrains with the best technology in the sector” said Mehmet Başaran, Chairman of Habaş.
Aurobay will supply two versions of powertrains: a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder mild hybrid engine with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) and a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder hybrid engine with dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) to be used in a plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV).
The mild hybrid offers a combination of efficiency and performance, while the PHEV focuses on fuel efficiency and the possibility of pure electric operation, meeting the growing demand for environmentally friendly transportation solutions.
Production for these powertrains is scheduled to start during the fourth quarter of 2026.
