BTCC driver stars in Autogas blockbuster!

It’s next stop Hollywood for current British Touring Car Championship driver Tom Onslow-Cole who has just taken the ‘lead role’ in a short online movie explaining to Autogas LPG drivers just how easy it is to fill up their cars with the cheap fuel.

Fittingly the location of the shoot was Shell Bridgetown in Stratford-upon-Avon where the Autogas refuelling station is situated because it is literally a stone’s throw away from the famous Royal Shakespeare Theatre where some of the world’s most famous actors have trodden the boards.

Tom joked: “I was in illustrious surroundings for the filming but I’m not sure I’ll be up for any acting awards.

“On a more serious note, the reason for the video is to show how simple and quick it is to top up at an Autogas refuelling station. It really is just as easy as with filling up with petrol or diesel.”

Shell Bridgetown was earmarked to host the filming as it is one of the newest sites in the Autogas UK network - the refuelling facility was officially switched on by Stratford MP Nadhim Zahawi in late 2011 - and it is just one of the 1,400 LPG refuelling stations in the country, making the cheap fuel readily available.

Tom himself runs an Autogas powered Rover 25 which he drives to race tracks around the UK as well as helping him get to training and corporate promotional days.

And apart from the ease of filling up, Tom also saves around 40 per cent on his running costs compared to petrol.

“Although LPG is environmentally better than petrol or diesel, it is primarily the cost saving aspect which appeals to many motorists,” added Tom.

While Tom currently benefits from Autogas in his everyday road car, he also drove a unique Autogas LPG powered Ford Focus in the BTCC in 2010. In that year he led more laps and miles than anyone else, enjoyed four race wins and 11 podiums before eventually finishing fourth overall – his most successful season to date.
