Timely LPG arrival at Bourne End ends forecourt fear

Hard-hit motorists can now slash their fuel bills by around a half thanks to the opening of an Autogas LPG refuelling facility at the newly rebranded Shell garage in Bourne End near Hemel Hempstead.

And the arrival of the cheaper and greener fuel from Autogas couldn’t be better timed, with petrol prices suffering a late summer surge.

Indeed, a spokesman for UKLPG, the trade association for the LPG industry in the UK, recently said that the cost per mile savings of LPG over petrol is greater now than they have been for more than a decade.

In fact, motorists who have converted to LPG autogas – and most petrol powered cars can be converted - typically enjoy annual fuel costs savings of up to 40 per cent.

Paul Oxford, Business Development Manager, Autogas, a joint venture between Shell and Calor, said: “With motorists continuing to feel the pinch financially, there’s perhaps never been a better time to switch to LPG. Drivers have been faced with record diesel and petrol prices but if they use Autogas they will be able to cut their running costs substantially.

“But don’t just take my word for it, as drivers filling up this week with LPG from our newly opened Bourne End site will pay 74.9 pence per litre compared with 137.9 for unleaded petrol.”

Other benefits include greener motoring as vehicles running on LPG emit far fewer of the harmful emissions associated with traditional road fuels that contribute to environmental and health problems.

Being a Shell site also means that Autogas drivers can enjoy the benefits offered by the Shell Drivers’ Club when they fill up, including money off Shell fuel and shopping vouchers.

The new Autogas refuelling station at Bourne End is part of an on-going expansion programme by Autogas, which has also recently included the opening of the very first LPG autogas refuelling facility on the M25 at new Cobham services.

In total, there are now more than 1,400 LPG refuelling stations in the UK making it readily and easily available.
