The Original Equipment Suppliers Aftermarket Association (OESAA) is promising that its stand at this year’s Automechanika, which takes place at the NEC from 7-9 June, will really drive home the benefits of OE components to a garage’s reputation and profit-margin.

Industry expert, Andy Savva, will be on hand throughout the day to educate attendees during a course of live presentations which will explain that the use of OE parts demonstrates dedication to customer satisfaction and safety.

Having been involved in the automotive industry for 30 years, Andy has owned and managed successful garages since 1994. He founded Brunswick Garage back in 2010, successfully demonstrating that an independent garage could rival national chains and main dealers on customer service and technical expertise. In just 18 months, Brunswick Garage reached the final 5 in The National Independent Garage of the Year Award, organised by Motor Trader Magazine.

Now an industry consultant, Andy will be running up to four presentations which he hopes will re-energise garage owners, explaining that the use of OE components wherever possible means that the quality of the repair will not be compromised by a sub-standard part.

“In most instances, negative practices are the result of over-stretched technicians-turned-owners who lack the time to finesse their customer service practices,” said Andy. “As a result, the quality of the work undertaken and the reputation of their business can be compromised.”

The interactive presentation will last 20 minutes, followed by a Q&A session, and will help to raise awareness of the benefits of OE components and the pitfalls of ‘matching quality’ alternatives, including hidden costs from breakages, lost labour time and increased reputational risk.

Commenting on OESAA’s presence, Chairman Nigel Morgan said: “Having Andy Savva on the OESAA stand this year should prove to be a real talking point. His passion and enthusiasm for improving industry standards are infectious, and his real-world experience of using OE products wherever possible to help ensure that his business is successful gives even greater weight to the OESAA message.”

Automechanika is the world's leading automotive supply chain exhibition. Following exceptional interest the sold-out show is set to feature over 550 domestic and international exhibitors, and is being held in the UK for the very first time.

About OESAA

The Original Equipment Suppliers Aftermarket Association (OESAA) is a group of world-leading OE component manufacturers, who have joined forces to help raise awareness about the differences between OE components supplied for original fitment on new vehicles and the so-called ‘matching quality’ alternatives sold in the aftermarket.

OESAA members are concerned that many distributor motor factors and garage installers are being sold products that misleadingly claim to be of ‘matching quality’: a phrase which does not qualify how this standard is achieved or measured. To win OE business, OE suppliers – including OESAA members - have to meet the hugely challenging standards set by the vehicle manufacturers, with zero defects.

OESAA's aim is simply to increase awareness at workshop level of the huge difference in quality and testing regimes between genuine OE Parts and those parts claiming to be ‘matching quality’  - to benefit the entire automotive industry.

OESAA believe it is their responsibility to make the aftermarket aware of the different quality levels available, and the inherent risks of fitting lower quality parts, to ensure garages and motor factors can make informed decisions on what to buy.
